Michigan Department of Community Health To Conduct Exposure Investigation in New Hudson

    Contact: T.J. Bucholz (517) 241-2112
    Agency: Community Health

    February 18, 2004

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) will begin an Exposure Investigation in New Hudson, Lyon Township, Oakland County on March 1, 2004.

The Investigation is expected to last 90 days and is part of a public health assessment that Lyon Township asked the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) to conduct due to local concerns about emissions from Continental Aluminum.

MDCH conducts public health assessments for ATSDR in Michigan. MDCH will monitor air concentrations of selected metals, acids, and volatile organic compounds. The data will be compared to health-based values to determine public health implications.

A report on the findings is expected to be released in late summer. MDCH invites the public to read the Exposure Investigation protocol or an information sheet on the Investigation at the Lyon Township offices at 58000 Grand River Avenue in New Hudson, the Lyon Township Public Library at 27025 Milford Road in New Hudson, the Salem-South Lyon District Library at 9800 Pontiac Trail in South Lyon, or the MDCH website at http://www.michigan.gov/mdch-toxics.

Questions about the Exposure Investigation in New Hudson may be directed to Christina Bush, 1-800-648-6942 or bushcr@michigan.gov.
