Periodically we receive notification from the Secretary of
State that property was annexed from one local unit of government to another. If
residential housing existed in the annexed area as of the 2000 census, the
annexation could affect the amount of revenue sharing your local unit receives.
Revenue sharing payments will only be changed to reflect the annexation, if a
joint resolution is filed with the Department of Treasury, Office of Revenue and
Tax Analysis. The joint resolution must include the population amount (as of
April 1, 2000) that is being transferred between the local units of government
and be signed by both local units governing bodies.
Any population adjustments are effective as follows:
Constitutional Revenue Sharing Payment - population
adjustments are effective as of the next August payment.
Statutory Revenue Sharing Payment - population adjustments
are effective as of the next October payment.
