Agency: Natural Resources

July 17, 2008

The Department of Natural Resources announced today that renovations to VanEtten Lake State Forest Campground in Iosco County are scheduled to begin in August. Closure of the campground and boat access site will be necessary beginning July 28 to enable staff to prepare the site for construction. The planned improvements, funded with grants from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Marine Safety Fund, are scheduled to be completed by mid-November.

The effort will complete work started several years ago to convert the campground from water wells to a municipal water supply. Additional water spigots will be provided in this work phase, along with improvements to the entrance road, lakeside campsites, boat launch and parking area.

Questions concerning the improvements at VanEtten Lake State Forest Campground may be directed to Brenda Curtis, DNR forest recreation planner, at 517-373-6260. Information regarding other camping opportunities in Iosco County may be found on the DNR's Web site, www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails, or by calling the DNR Gaylord Operations Service Center at 989-732-3541, extension "0" for the operator.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
