Midland Physician Loses License

Contact:  James McCurtis, Jr. (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

June 13, 2008

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the medical license of Hamid Taaid, M.D., a/k/a Enrico Taaid, based on his felony conviction in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Northern Division. Taaid failed to report his conviction to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.

On March 25, 2008, Taaid, 47, was convicted of one felony count of Health Care Fraud. The conviction was based on Taaid's billing for services that were not performed. As a result, Taaid was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment, upon release he will be placed under supervision for a period of two years with terms. In addition, Taaid was ordered to pay restitution and fees totaling $73,282.87.

On June 2, 2008, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Taaid's license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Taaid's medical license.
