Homebuyer education is available to qualified applicants through the Homeownership program. The training ensures that a homebuyer will have a good understanding of their mortgage loan, the closing process, budgeting and saving as a homeowner, recapture tax, basic home maintenance, and avoiding predatory lending or foreclosure.

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS
Some counseling services may require:
A family with at least one adult member and a related minor child (or a pregnant applicant/co-applicant) AND
A household annual income of 80 percent of the area median income or lowest income non-metropolitan county (whichever is greater)
COUNSELING NETWORK
The Michigan Homeownership Counseling Network is the entry point for all Homeownership services. A list of certified Network Counselors made up of nonprofit agencies, MSU Extension agents, Community Action Agencies, and local units of government is available on the web at http://www.mshda.info/counseling_search/. To apply for Homeownership Counseling services, contact a Network Counselor in your county. All services are paid for by MSHDA and provided free of charge to eligible applicants.
