Transportation Funding Task Force to meet Sept. 8 in Lansing

WHAT: The Transportation Funding Task Force, a bi-partisan task force appointed by Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm and the Michigan Legislature, will hold its next meeting in Lansing.

BACKGROUND: The 13-member task force will review the adequacy of surface transportation, aeronautics service provision, and finance in Michigan, including strategies to ensure that Michigan receives a greater financial return on transportation investments. It also will evaluate the potential of alternate strategies to replace or supplement state motor fuel taxes, existing and alternative user fees, and non-user revenues to support economic activity and personal mobility in Michigan. The task force will hold monthly meetings across the state and will publish its preliminary findings by Oct. 31, 2008.
