Poverty Census

Poverty counts for the 2009-10 application must be obtained from the 2008 Census at:

  http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/saipe/district.html

1.    Open the above website.

2.     Select 2008, and Michigan, click Continue.

3.    Choose Select All or scroll down to find the district you are seeking, then click Display Data.

4.    To obtain the poverty percentage, you must do a little math.

Divide the number of students in RELEVANT AGE 5-17 IN FAMILIES IN POVERTY by the total number students in the column labeled RELEVANT AGE 5-17.

5.  The percentage that results from that division will tell you if your district qualifies as being 20.0% or above.

Or utilize the list which includes Charter schools at: 

  2007-08 Poverty Census 20%

Not Highly Qualified

A list of LEAs, ISD/RESAs who are shown with teachers that are Not Highly Qualified can be accessed at:     Not HQ
