2008

  • MORE (Michigan Online Resources for Educators) is added to MeL.
  • MeL is redesigned with “Gateways” for easier searching.


2007

  • MeL databases chosen for next 3 year period announced
  • Michigan Educators Resources added to MeL
  • "MeL ReMix" unveiled -  the latest and most content-rich version of the Michigan eLibrary (MeL), at http://mel.org
  • MeL usability study reveals that MeLCat is working well and growing, that rethinking the function of the federated search box is needed and reinforces that regular MeL users find it effective, efficient, and easy to use.


2005

  • Users accessing the InfoTrac databases through MeL will use the new PowerSearch interface.
  • Preview of new MeL is launched including new gateway interface, MeLCat, the new statewide catalog, with resource sharing for participating libraries, and federated searching of the MeL Databases, MeL Internet and MeLCat.


2004

  • Libraries are invited to participate in MeLCat
  • Michigan County Histories and Atlases online collection is added to MeL.
  • Participating Michigan libraries on July 1 began the inaugural year of the new MeL Statewide Delivery service.
  • Library of Michigan Partners with Innovative Interfaces and Michigan Library Consortium to Expand Michigan eLibrary
  • MeL Catalog Policies Committee forms to be responsible for policies for the statewide union catalog.
  • MeL Resource Sharing Policies Committee forms to be responsible for policies governing statewide resource sharing

 

2003

  • MeL Catalog Steering Committee on Feb. 12 receives 10 responses to the Request for Information (RFI) for the MeL Catalog and Portal.


2002

  • 24 hour remote access to MeL.org unveiled to the public in the summer of 2002
  • MeL Catalog Readiness Survey made available to plan for the implementation of the MeL Catalog.


2000

  • Michigan Library Consortium transfers administration of AccessMichigan to the Library of Michigan


1999

  • ATLAS, the Action Team for Advancement of Libraries Statewide (1999-2002), plans the design for a statewide catalog and interlibrary loan (ILL) delivery service.
  • AccessMichigan/MEL Teams Up with Merit's Michigan Teacher Network
  • Michigan Library Consortium tapped to provide implementation services for AccessMichigan
  • AccessMichigan web site available to libraries providing online database access, library catalogs, SPAN, state government information, local community projects, a training calendar, professional development activities and information sharing for librarians.
  • Serials, Periodicals, and Newspapers (SPAN) database is an Internet accessible, state-wide list of magazines and journals held in more than 875 Michigan libraries.
